How to Reach Tier 3

Tier 3 — Verified American Paso Stud Book is the highest level. Complete the five steps below, then submit everything electronically from the horse’s registration page.

American Paso registration and Tier 3 upgrades are free.

You pay a laboratory or veterinarian directly for their services. American Paso never charges for registering, upgrading, reviewing, or issuing a certificate.

  1. Step 1

    Registry Papers

Upload your horse’s existing recognized registry papers.

If this horse already holds Tier 2 — Documented Registry status, those verified papers are reused automatically and nothing needs to be uploaded again.

  2. Step 2

    DNA Verification

Provide a DNA identification profile from an accepted laboratory.

UC Davis Veterinary Genetics Laboratory — horse parentage test
    1. 1Order the parentage / genetic marker test from the laboratory.
    2. 2Collect 20–40 mane or tail hairs with the roots attached.
    3. 3Mail the sample following the laboratory’s instructions.
    4. 4Receive the results, then upload the report to this horse’s record.

Existing compatible DNA reports may also be submitted for review. Breed-composition (ancestry percentage) tests are not a substitute for a DNA identification profile.

  3. Step 3

    Microchip

Have a veterinarian implant or verify an ISO-compatible equine microchip.

Enter the 15-digit microchip number on the horse’s record and upload the implant certificate or veterinary documentation.

  4. Step 4

    Ownership Verification

Confirm ownership of the horse and provide any requested supporting documentation.

Ownership is bound to your verified member account. A bill of sale, transfer form, or breed papers can be uploaded if a reviewer asks for them.

  5. Step 5

    Submit for Tier 3 Review

Submit everything electronically from the horse’s registration page — no printing, no mailing, no fee.

An administrator reviews the file before anything is granted. Tier 3 is never approved automatically.
